This file contains a lesson plan dealing with gymnastics for the ages Pre-K-3. It is the third lesson in a sequence of lessons to develop a unit plan for gymnastic for kids at a young age. It is a continuation of the Lessons located on TPT website “Gymnastic Lesson 1 Pre-K-3 and Gymnastic Lesson 2 Pre-K-3.” The lessons can be adjusted however you seem necessary to fit the ability of your students. The following concepts will be developed and used within the lesson:
After the teachers anticipatory set and rules for the skills lesson the students will be able to prioritize honesty and personal integrity by demonstrating consistent behavior to comply with the preset rules.Given a warm up activity of a fitness tag game, in general space, the students will be able to apply, cardiovascular fitness by performing locomotor movements during the activity. Given questions asked to the students by the teacher after explaining the critical elements of the backwards roll the students will be able to comprehend the correct movements by answering in their own words questions about backwards roll elements with 100% accuracy. Given an area with gymnasium mats and in their own personal space the students will be able to apply gross motor co-ordination, balance and body control by performing the critical elements of backwards roll while concentrating on tucking their chin during the movement.Following a teacher explanation and demonstration of the Backwards roll on the cheese wedge, students will be able to utilize GMC, body control and flexibility by executing the backwards roll on the cheese wedge mats and moving to the regular mats when comfortable. Given a demonstration by the teacher and general space, the students will be able to apply GMC, timing and body control by demonstrating the balance skills they learned in the previous class and then turning it into a backwards roll. Try this lesson if you have tried the first 2 lessons of this gymnastic series. It’s a great way to teach the kids way to perform basic movement skills. Enjoy!
