This glyph activity can be used by students who are unable to participate in Halloween activities (Scarecrow glyph) and those that are able to participate (Jack-O-Lantern glyph).
Every fall I get the question are we going to do the Scarecrow or Jack-O-Lantern glyph that was done by the students last year? The students in my Literacy Class and the grade two class, which I also taught, successfully completed this engaging activity. The students had fun comparing the various glyphs and completing the writing and graphing activities.
The Jack-O-Lantern glyph gives the students the choice to draw, color or glue different items by following the directions given. The students complete the scarecrow glyph by drawing and coloring according to the directions given.
These activities can be easily adapted for first grade by reading the directions to the children.
I hope that your students have fun completing their glyphs and that the project becomes one that future students anticipate doing.
Come visit my store, A Little Bit of This and That for the Classroom. I will be adding new things regularly. Thank you.
