My students' ALL TIME FAVORITE ACTIVITY OF THE YEAR!!! At the end of the school year, they would still bring this one up! Students I taught in years past will still come up to me and say "Remember that story thing where we reached our hands into the bags and touched body parts!?!" Sooo cool!!
Everything you need for this writing activity is included:
-The story and a list of items you need to purchase to be the body parts (1 page).**
-A planning sheet with spaces for pictures of the characters in their story, a space to write a summary of the setting and plot (1 page)
-A story board planning sheet with space for 6 pictures to be drawn and a caption for each picture (1 page)
-6 pages of clip art pictures to be cut out for the characters with directions
-2 Revising/Editing checklist options
-2 rubric options: 1 is a little more involved, and 1 is very simple (completion grade essentially)
-An "Answer Sheet" to be used in conjunction with the revising checklist (Ex: Write a sentence from your story that uses a comma with items in a series; Write a sentence from your story that uses a past perfect tense verb phrase.)
-Questions for students to answer during story presentations (Used to encourage listening skills) (2 PowerPoints)
-All items are on in a zipped file and are Microsoft Word files that can be easily re-formatted.
**When I did this activity, first I would welcome all of my students at the door and have them place their items on their desks. Then we would go to the bathroom and WASH HANDS. While they were doing that, I would dress up in a black cape, a had, and hands with claws. I would escort the kids back into the classroom and have them sit in a circle on the floor. I would play scary music and tell the story, passing 2 bags of each item around opposite sides of the circle. While I was telling the story, I would throw fake rats and worms at the kids! They LOVED it!
