Writing a paragraph sounds like work; making a hamburger sounds like fun. With the model of a hamburger, beginning writers (grades 1-2) can learn and practice writing the standard 5-sentence paragraph (junior version of the 5-paragraph essay). This basic structure is used for writing across the grades and throughout the curriculum.
This Hamburger Paragraph kit consists of pages designed to look like the ingredients of a hamburger. Writers can use the 5 lined sheets for planning and/or writing their paragraphs:
• top bun for topic sentence
• lettuce for supporting detail 1
• tomato for supporting detail 2
• burger for supporting detail 3
• bottom bun for concluding sentence
With this 3-D graphic organizer, it is easy to try out alternative topic sentences and conclusions and experiment with the order of supporting details.
