This is the HARD GOOD version of the social story. I will print in color, laminate the story, and bind with a metal ring before shipping to you. If you would like the digital download, please use the other listing in my store.
Description: Use this FILL-IN-THE-BLANK social story to prepare your child for an upcoming vacation. This story is about a family who goes on a road trip, stays in a hotel, and visits friends or family. Look for other versions in my store (e.g., Airplane, Train, Relative’s House). This story has 11 pages with color pictures and simple phrases to engage your youngest students or your older students with autism or other developmental differences.
Fill-In-The-Blanks (use wet erase marker to add in personal words after laminating the book):
1. Day of departure
2. Blank calendar strip to mark specific days
3. Favorite item to bring
4. Home location
5. Vacation location
6. Number of days in hotel
7. Name of other children to play with
8. Day of return
Inspiration: The story was made specifically for an 8-year-old boy who has autism. His family drove from home to visit their relatives for Thanksgiving. We wanted to teach the boy how to pack his suitcase, when to anticipate the departure and return, how to stay safe and entertained in the car, what to expect at the hotel, and who they were going to visit. This story helped make the vacation more predictable in the boy’s mind, so transitions were much easier.
Targeted Group: Young talkers (2 – 3 years old) through older children with developmental differences. The language is simple with about 2-3 sentences per page.
Use: Read the story with the child often to help the child understand and predict the upcoming events. It is important to read the story as a behavior modification and reassurance after the child becomes upset about being away from home.
