This memory game/activity contrasts the pronouns HE and SHE.
There are 30 cards (15 pairs) total. You may want to use fewer pairs for younger children and/or kids with lower mastery of these pronouns. For kids who are older and/or kids who can distinguish these pronouns with over 60% accuracy, you will want to include more pairs in your game.
Each player takes turns flipping over 2 cards at a time and describes what the boy/girl in the picture is doing by saying “he is...” or “she is...”
If a player picks 2 matching cards (i.e., cards where the boy and girl are doing the same action), that player gets to keep those cards. If a player does not pick 2 matching cards, he/she needs to put those 2 cards back in the same spot on the table, facedown.
The game ends when all card pairs have been collected. The player who has collected the most pairs, wins.
*To squeeze in more practice opportunities, at the end of the game, I typically ask my clients/students to label/describe their pictures one more time.
***This is a standalone activity. If you would like to purchase the complete he/she/they instructional bundle, click HERE. The bundle includes a lengthy 43-page book with abundant practice trials, this particular "he/she" memory game, and a "they" pronoun puzzle. Both games complement the book and reinforce learning.***
