Product Description
This is a 32 page ready-to-use packet for teachers to use with students who are reading Beverly Cleary's book, Henry and the Clubhouse. Included is a 22 page student booklet designed to reinforce essential reading and writing skills for students in grades 3-5. Also included is an answer key for the teacher and a biography of the author. Reading, writing, and thinking skills that are addressed include understanding cause and effect, connecting to the text, expanding vocabulary, demonstrating general comprehension, explaining, summarizing, describing, creative writing, visualizing, and noticing similarities and differences. Created by Jean Martin.

The student booklet is divided into seven reading assignments (they correspond to the chapters in the text) with questions and tasks to go with each one. It is designed for independent work so that students may be working on this in class while the teacher is meeting with another group. In my 4th grade classroom students were responsible for completing one reading assignment with the accompanying activities each week. They would be given three, 40 minute periods per week to complete one assignment. They would then meet once a week with me (or an aide or a parent), along with the other students reading the same book (we called this a "book club" meeting) to discuss the book and review the assignments.

HENRY and the CLUBHOUSE in a nutshell:

A TIMELESS CLASSIC!
The adventures of Henry are as fun to read today as they were in 1962 when Beverly Cleary wrote this book! From riding down the street in a bathtub pulled behind a truck, to the perils of delivering papers in the neighborhood, to building a clubhouse with his friends, and putting up with the irritating ways of his young neighbor, Ramona, this book provides laughs that students will love and relate to with enthusiasm.
Appropriate for students in grades 3-5. Reading level approximately 4th grade.
