This lesson will discuss the topic of nutrition through the lifespan. More specifically, the nutritional needs during pre-pregnancy and pregnancy are discussed. There will be a reference to nutritional needs (specific micronutrients, supplements), foods that need to be avoided and factors that impact food choices.
Analyze developments during pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and lactation
Explain how various factors (e.g. familial, social, cultural, emotional) impacts a person’s food choices
Explain what foods are appropriate during these stages of life and why
Identify food items that would be appropriate to meet the nutritional needs at this stage of life
Ontario curriculum expectations covered are: C1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4
