To go with the awesome spreadsheet data analysis tutorials from HHMI (https://www.hhmi.org/biointeractive/spreadsheet-data-analysis-tutorials), I created this worksheet to walk my students through all 3 sets of information and hold them accountable for it. Students learn how to use Excel to:
-complete simple mathematical functions
-calculate central tendency
-calculate variance and standard deviation
-create a bar graph of means of data
-put error bars on the bar graph to 95% confidence/2 SEM
I have my students complete this as an assignment (and figure it will take them about 2 hours to complete) and then apply the knowledge in class. I am taking my kids to a nearby museum where we are helping with mussel research; they use the mussel data and use Excel to calculate statistics and graph the info, as learned in the HHMI tutorial. You could do the same with any sort of data that you find.
