ELECTION HINK PINKS, HINKY PINKIES, HINKITY PINKITIES, and HITINKITY PITINKITIES

HINK PINKS, HINKY PINKIES, HINKITY PINKITIES, and HITINKITY PITINKITIES are riddles that help children learn to problem solve while exercising vocabulary skills (definitions, synonyms, parts of speech, rimes, ...). These Election themed, printable task cards prompt your students to interpret data, make inferences, draw conclusions, and analyze new information. Hink Pinks, et al. riddles are terrific for centers, enrichment, differentiation, bell ringers, sponge activities, and GATE. But the BEST part is your kiddos will love them!

HOW HINK PINKS, et al. WORK

  • Hink Pink clues lead you to a 2 word answer.
    • Each answer word must have just one syllable.
    • The 2 words must rhyme.
      • Example:
        • Hink Pink clue: satchel for carrying ballots
        • Hink Pink answer: vote tote
  • Hinky Pinky clues also require a 2 word answer.
    • Each answer word must have two syllables.
    • The 2 words must rhyme.
      • Example:
        • Hinky Pinky clue: enthusiastic gathering for vote count
        • Hinky Pinky answer: tally rally
  • Hinkity Pinkity clues seek a 2 word answer.
    • Each answer word must have 3 syllables.
    • The 2 words must rhyme.
      • Example:
        • Hinkity Pinkity clue: the White House
        • Hinkity Pinkity answer: President’s residence
  • Hitinkity Pitinkity clues need a 2 word answer.
    • Each answer word must have 4 syllables.
    • The 2 words must rhyme.
      • Example:
        • Hitinkity Pitinkity clue: Elected official adversary
        • Hitinkity Pitinkity answer: Politician opposition

HOW TO USE THIS PRODUCT

  • civics lessons
    • Reinforce the vocabulary you have taught in studying elections. Challenge your whole group to solve the riddles. Encourage research by making dictionaries and thesauri available.
  • a warm-up activity
    • Settle your group and direct their focus by collaboratively solving several of the clues at the outset of your lesson. This works particularly well if you are conducting a pull-out or push-in program.
  • a sponge activity
    • We all face those awkward moments when our lesson ends early and we cannot move on to the next part of our schedule because of time constraints. Grab a few clue cards and challenge your students. Any time is a good time for critical thinking!
  • an anchor activity
    • Engage your students’ brains the moment they enter your classroom with Election Hink Pinks, et al. Post a few clue cards each day and train your pupils to work on the solutions.
