For my student's here in Louisiana this has never been a problem except for the fact that there is just too many genres to narrow the air time to just 30 minutes. My kids have an issue with trying to limit the playlist of people they are trying to reach. I somethings try to direct them to a particular group of people, a particular ethnic group, a particular social group, or some other 'limitations' just to make them think harder.
My students have to limit themselves to one particular genre of music, be it jazz, blues, country, rap, gospel, insturmental, French, Spanish, American, etc. It makes things hard for tem as they limit and limit their playlists.
My fellow teachers from Texas have said the same thing for their students as they have used this activity in their own state history lessons.
