I just want my fellow teachers to know the real story about the Desire Streetcar Line and not just the play by Tennessee Williams. Your students need to know the facts about the streetcar line and what happened to it and why. It is a great story but fast outweigh the myths that have long been held in and around New Orleans.
I have always loved the NO streetcars and ride at least one every time I'm down there. I would love to have my students ride time when we go but we generally are limited to the red Line. But it gives them a small taste. It is just hard to get 30+ plus students and chaperones on and off it in the short time allotted. And I know they are much safer than a subway in NYC.
I hope this set of questions and two sets of reading material helps you get the information to your own students. Set on of the reading mater is the only one the questions cover but the other makes for good extra material if you so desire. No pun intended.
There is also a link to a great set of photos from all the streetcar lines in New Orleans. Plus you can Google search the Williams play if you so want it. I have occasionally used the cliff notes just to give extra info.
