As a history middle school teacher I was always looking for something that will make the facts get burned into kids noggins and I found a couple of new and interesting ways to get my kids to 'think' for a change. Here is a way to get them to come up with a decade of a fact/person/event/place, place them in a 'timeline' and make them relate to them as distinct in tidies and in distinct ERAs.
The other magazines cover also lets them to create another historical figure generally not in the text BUT SHOULD BE. It may be like Jean Lafitte's brother, or one of Huey Long's sisters, or may Andrew Jackson's wife, just AnOther person.
These two magazine covers are just another way to get students talking, thinking, and letting you know just how much they have learned throughout the chapter.
