I've created powerpoints for each weekly theme that go along with the Houghton Mifflin reading series. The letters "fall" one by one to make a word. We discuss if the word "follows the rule" (phonics rules) or not. Then we read the sentence that follows it. Lots of teachable moments with this. If one word fall ex: band, I say what word would I have if I change b to s? On the sentence I may ask student to find a word that has a blend or -ing at the end.
