These are ideas and activities that I've used with my High School Science classes to help teach students how to look for validity in websites and articles. With hot topics, it's very easy for someone to use facts in a way that slants the "truth" towards a particular side of a controversy. Students need to learn how to find facts in an argument as well as look at the validity of who is sharing the facts (author's credentials, opinions vs facts, and context clues).
This FREE download has a list of HOAX websites that I have found. It also has examples of how I used this activity in my Zoology and Marine Biology Classes - with examples of activity instructions and a worksheet.
