This product is about HORSES: Reading a Chart Worksheet, and utilizes the Comprehension Skill of Feature Analysis.
First, students read four factual paragraphs about four horse breeds. The breeds are: Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, Clydesdales, and Lippizans. Beside each expository paragraph is a nice drawing of each horse. The paragraphs give facts and features about each breed. The second page has a chart grid, where students put checkmarks by the nine different phrases that describe features of the different breeds. Specifically, it is called a Feature Analysis Chart. Using it, students analyze horse features to see whether or not they apply to the phrases about the horses. Sometimes the phrases apply to more than one type of horse. To successfully fill in the chart with checkmarks, students need to go back and reread parts of the four paragraphs. They must analyze and compare details. This interesting worksheet will encourage students to read critically and use reading strategies that enhance reading comprehension. It will also provide students with beneficial practice for studying charts and/ or making charts in future assignments. An answer key is included.
