MY APPROACH TO TEACHING and to the offered UNITS on this website is to pepper the worksheets (and, optionally, the quizzes) with informational guides that serve as text-book-like how-to instructions. How the teacher puts it all together is left to that teacher's unique approach to teaching. In other words, these offerings are PROBLEM-BASED and not lesson-plan based. The difference is profound. I do not pretend to know how you should speak to your students and refuse to offer canned lesson plans--the material will serve as your own guide as well as for the students themselves.
This unit deals with measuring angles, linear distances and conversion of units. It is UNCANNY, STUPIFYING, EMBARRASSING and a DEEP CAUSE FOR CONCERN that so many secondary students do not know the basics of measuring and standard units. I personally blame the uncalled for emphasis on computer knowledge (even though I have spent 35+ years programming and designing computer systems myself) but there are other causes as well. In wide use here are diagrams and templates to help facilitate understanding.
INCLUDED is a TEACHER's GUIDE of every teaching reference utilized by the enclosed problems as well as every (large) diagram needed by the problems. From this alone the unit can be thought through and designed. Also included is a SPECIAL RUN of level 1 (simplest) problems that basically provides you with a preview of each of the skills.
FOUR possible sets of worksheets are included (5, 10, 15 or 20 problems in each of the 9 main skill areas for a total of 45, 90, 135 or 180 problems).
SIX possible quizzes (each with 10 problems) are also included--2 at a level 2 (easiest), 2 at a 2 and 3 level (a mix of easiest and more average)and 2 at a level 3 (average).

The actual difficulty level appears slightly to the left of the DK box of each problem in a very small font. Also, instructional references appear on worksheets but are optional on quizzes.]
One more thing: all of these materials were created using my usual database because I was given the task in 2011 of teaching Applied Math to at-risk kids. The problem was that they, as a group, have a very hard time with on-line math courses and my school wanted to offer an alternative. This unit, then, is the result of several years' worth of tweaking.
