Product Description
MY APPROACH TO TEACHING and to the offered UNITS on this website is to pepper the worksheets (and, optionally, the quizzes) with informational guides that serve as text-book-like how-to instructions. How the teacher puts it all together is left to that teacher's unique approach to teaching. In other words, these offerings are PROBLEM-BASED and not lesson-plan based. The difference is profound. I do not pretend to know how you should speak to your students and refuse to offer canned lesson plans--the material will serve as your own guide as well as for the students themselves.

This is certainly an interesting unit. Its basic theme is SIMILARITY but it also introduces the difference between it and CONGRUENCE as well as the concept of TRANSVERSALS with easy theorems concerning them. It ends with TESSELLATIONS that can be constructed easily (in fact, this last concept accounts for the large size of the file since several sketches have been included for reference). You will find that most of your secondary students are either fuzzy on these concepts or are totally unaware of them. You will also find that several students enjoy creating the tessellations--in many cases using an ISOMETRIC grid.

INCLUDED is a TEACHER's GUIDE of every teaching reference utilized by the enclosed problems as well as every (large) diagram needed by the problems. From this alone the unit can be thought through and designed. Also included is a SPECIAL RUN of level 1 (simplest) problems that basically provides you with a preview of each of the skills.

FOUR possible sets of worksheets are included--5, 10, 15 or 20 problems in each of the 8 main skill areas.

SIX possible quizzes (each with 10 problems) are also included--2 at a level 2 (easiest), 2 at combined levels of 2 and 3 (a mix of easiest and more average), 2 at a level 3 (average) and none at the combined levels of 3 and 4 (most difficult).

Look at the PREVIEW to see what order the 8 skills are in and the possible approach taken. Also, the 4 snapshots can help determine if this is or is not for you. Furthermore, send me an email if you have a question.

[The problems in All WORKSHEETS and PREVIEWS are printed in difficulty (1 [easy], 2 [not so easy], 3 [proficiency] up to 4 [mastery]) order within a skill. The actual difficulty level appears slightly to the left of the DK box of each problem in a very small font. Also, instructional references appear on worksheets but are optional on quizzes.]

One more thing: all of these Geometry materials were created using my usual database because I was given the task in 2014 of teaching geometry to at-risk kids. The problem was that they, as a group, have a very hard time with on-line geometry and my school wanted to offer an alternative. As it happened, I had already taught this particular unit in an Applied Math course for several years. This unit, then, is the result of several years' worth of tweaking.

RELATED ITEMS:
BUNDLES: The entire 1st semester course is posted here as: HS [Remedial] Geometry A Full Course (bundle).

The prior unit is UNIT 4: Angles and the next unit is UNIT 6: Similar Constructions.

The 2 semesters of Remedial Geometry that I have had to concoct and hone over the last couple of years are the HS [Remedial] Geometry A Sampler: (textbook-less course) and the HS [Remedial] Geometry B Sampler: (textbook-less course).
