This is a PowerPoint about the Prairie Habitat. This PowerPoint describes the attributes of the prairie habitat, as well as plants and animals that live there.
With this PowerPoint (and all of my habitat PowerPoints) I use Katie Pipkin's Animal Habitat Graphic Organizer, which is a free download on TPT. Her graphic organizer goes great with the PowerPoints I have created. (I make a packet of 2 pages, double sided copies, of her graphic organizer, which is a total of 4 pages, for desert, rainforest, ocean, and prairie habitat)
In the large box, we draw the prairie habitat landscape, and in the three small boxes to the right, we draw three different pictures of animals that live in the prairie habitat and write the name of the animal on the line provided.
When we draw the landscape I have my students draw at least one plant we learned about and their favorite desert animal that was mentioned.
We complete the graphic organizer as we go through the PowerPoint. Once we get to the "Review" slide, we stop and draw the landscape. And after we finish learning about each of the animals, we draw that particular animal and write the name.
I teach Kindergarten, therefore it is a lot of modeling, especially when it comes to the writing. If you teach an older grade, this could be an independent assignment/activity.
This is my favorite unit to teach! (Habitats and Animal Groups). My kids love this unit! And I think it's because they love seeing the pictures of the animals and their environment.
