These 10 inquiry-based activities and experiments are perfect for 2nd grade classes focusing on these Next Generation Science Standards:
2-LS4-1: Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats
2-LS2-1: Plan and conduct an investigation to determine if plants need sunlight and water to grow.
2-LS2-2: Develop a simple model that mimics the function of an animal in dispersing seeds or pollinating plants.
Students will practice inquiry skills of researching, teaching and sharing information, planning experiments and making observations. Students will focus on comparing and contrasting habitats, observing plant life, seed dispersal, and manipulating environments for plant growth!
Advanced warning: there's about $10 of purchases involved with these activities, and I highly recommend having iPads or other computer access in the classroom to use for research.
