This SMART Notebook file was designed to be used with classroom Smartboards. The file contains 9 slides that introduce the "Habits of Mind" I use in my classroom to help children become better thinkers and better people. These habits include Judgment, Thoughtfulness, Craftsmanship, Openness, Connections, Viewpoint, Relevance, Evidence, and Bias. Each slide includes a specific Habit of Mind, a simple definition of the word, a sentence demonstrating the meaning of the word, a short list of related words, and examples of this habit in action. I use these slides at the beginning of each school year so that my students understand the ways of thinking and intellectual dispositions that are required to produce quality work. I simply cannot imagine teaching children without consistently highlighting and reinforcing these critical habits. A companion file entitled "Habits of Character" is also available on this site. The Habits of Character focus on work habits, social skills, and attitudes that make kids better students and better people.
