Song Books are the perfect way to engage your students. "Had a Little Rooster" ebook includes rhythmic animal sounds and makes a great addition to your farm unit! We use this with the First Steps In Music curriculum by John Feierabend.
We think this song tale is perfect for back to school time! There are plenty of opportunities for extension activities in this song book, especially relevant in the first days of school, that could include the concepts of sharing, community building, and building self-esteem.
In this animated song tale ebook, the characters have simple, repetitive animation based on the form of the song. We have included the file in THREE DIFFERENT VERSIONS! The first is the animated ebook with a vocal track and ukulele accompaniment so even the youngest students will be able to hear the melody clearly and match pitch as they learn the song tale through repetition. Because "Had a Little Rooster" is an add-on song, adding a new verse each time while repeating the end of each previous verse, by the end of the first singing, most students will be confidently singing along.
The second file is the animated ebook with ukulele accompaniment ONLY, so you can provide your own singing. IMPORTANT NOTE: There are two measures of introduction at the beginning and we did include a count-off to begin singing. There are also two measures of accompaniment between each verse that you must count out before beginning the next verse or your singing will not match up with the ebook!
Finally, we have included a PDF of the song tale in book form. The PDF has a clean white background so it is easy to print and have a hard copy of the book for your classroom. In addition, we have included three simple ideas for extension activities, including one for a simple sub plan and a printable worksheet to go with the sub plan lesson.
At about five minutes long, the animated ebook would make for a good sub plan in any general music class or primary grade elementary classroom.
Head back to school with "Had a Little Rooster" and have a musical day!
