Haiku is something that I teach during my 6th grade poetry unit to emphasize the importance of structure. I find that it perfectly relates to CCSS RL6.5. However, instead of just teaching it - I allow students to really immerse themselves in it by creating 5 Haiku, which can then be displayed as a classroom rainbow. The final effect is awesome, and I always had other teachers and students commenting on it!
Included in this product:
Two PPT presentations
The first PPT explains what Haiku is, including higher-level thinking questions that connect Haiku to Common Core and examples
The second PPT leads students through the process of creating a Haiku Rainbow. I included notes for educators on how I incorporated the process in my own classroom.
This final project always turns out beautifully, and can be a great way to add an interdisciplinary element to your classroom by working with your Art Teacher.
