Haiku poetry is a form that's very accessible for most students, yet it also leads to some beautifully expressive work. This packet of two rubrics makes it easy to score students' haiku in an objective way.
Format, topic choice, and imagery are key aspects of the haiku, and the rubrics provide descriptive explanations of stronger and weaker writing in those areas. Teachers will find it easy to assess students' poetry, and students can use the rubric as a guide to self-evaluation as they revise and edit their work.
The packet provides two different versions of the rubric, weighted differently for different classroom needs. Students can be graded on their best two or three examples of haiku poetry, using one sheet for each student.
