This unit is a reading response booklet for the story Half a Chance by author Cynthia Lord. This booklet makes comprehension and accountability simple! There are chapter response activities for each chapter.
In Cynthia Lord's story, Lucy's family moves to an old house on a lake, Lucy tries to see her new home through her camera's lens. She meets a friendly neighbor, Nate, whose grandma loves the loons. Lucy's father is a famous photographer, away on a shoot. Lucy tries to capture her father's high standards through her photos and capture his heart through a photo contest in which her father is judging. Lucy decides to enter this contest anonymously. She wants to find out if her eye for photography is really special -- or only good enough. As Lucy is photographing she catches her friend's grandmother losing her memory. Nate and Lucy juggle telling the truth, helping others and learning the power beauty holds.
This book is written by an award winning author and you won't want to miss out. This book is a 2016 William Allen White Award winner and the reason why I made this unit. I can't wait to use it with my own class!
