What educators are saying

Enjoyed using this resource with my students pre Halloween. It really was a lot of fun and they enjoyed these activities

Halloween often looks different in secondary schools, usually because of the pressure we feel to cover the curriculum. But, doing so does not mean we can’t have any fun around the holiday. The following activities are designed to focus on not only spooky topics, but also the skills we want our students to practice in secondary ELA. There is quite a variety, so you can pick and choose which activities best fit with what you are doing in October.

In this package you will find:

-A short research activity that will allow students to practice their research skills. They will have an option to write and/or present their information.

-Several creative writing assignments that focus on mood, imagery and character development.

-Writing prompts that are focused on Halloween, including story starters using famous lines from scary movies and novels. (I don’t identify the novel or movie, so as not to influence the students)

-An exercise that allows students to practice their skills for persuasion.

-A listening activity

-Opportunities for collaboration.

-Rubrics in case you would like to formally assess these activities.
