This is a fun, yet still academic, way to get kids working through math word problems. They read the word problem and choose their answer. Each question provides the student with something to add to their monster, from eyes to nose to an accessory. The answer choice gives them different kinds. For instance, angry eyes, surprised eyes, scared eyes. They are provided with a picture of the kind of eyes, or nose, or mouth to draw on their monster.
You as the teacher are provided with an answer key and a sample finished monster to look at. This way you can check their answers or simply check their monster to see if they have the right "features".
