Looking for a fun Halloween formative assessment? Your students will absolutely LOVE this fraction scavenger hunt! It's my most popular activity - with both teachers and students!
These problems include mixed numbers and students will have to reduce some of the problems to solve them.
Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)
How to Play the Scavenger Hunt: Student will start at a random number, work out that problem, then look for the answer on another poster (top right side of each poster). They will then work out that problem until they've worked out all of them. I normally pair up my students and start them at random numbers. They then know to continue until all posters are done.
