My students LOVE any kind of practice connected to a mystery picture. I created this jack-o-lantern mystery picture to help my 4th graders practice their coordinate graphing.
Print points to plot AND the blank graph paper for each student. I teach them to use a Post-it to track each point down the page as they plot it on the graph. The points should be connected with a ruler AS THEY PLOT THEM. The first set of points connect to make the basic shape of the pumpkin. The next two sets create the eyes. Then the nose is drawn. And lastly, the toothy smile is plotted. I encourage my students to color the picture once they have plotted all the points and figured out the mystery picture.
I hope to make more of these for other seasons and holidays. Enjoy!
