Let’s get you ready for the Halloween season! This Haunted House Escape Room for elementary students is the perfect way to engage students during the busy month of October. This Escape event uses math, a coordinated grid, and a Halloween puzzle. There are goblins, mummies, vampires, witches, and haunted houses!

An Escape Room is a puzzle game in which students solve riddles and puzzles and find clues to finish tasks. In this Escape Room students solve puzzles to open locked boxes.

NOTE: This Escape Room is available in a money-saving bundle!

For the first task, students will complete a math riddle paper. The riddle’s answer leads to riddle poster displays and they will search for the lock code on the posters to open the first box.

For the second task, students will complete a coordinated grid paper by plotting points and connecting the points to draw a Halloween character. When the page is correctly completed the teams will earn a clue for the lock code of the second box.

For the third task, students will piece together a Halloween puzzle that spells a clue word or phrase. Students must search for Halloween posters to find the third lock code.

And there is MORE! When that last box is unlocked students will find the Criteria card for a STEM Challenge. Opening the box gives them the task rules and they will grab a supply bin and get busy planning a Candy Pumpkin Launching device.

You will need three number locks for this Escape Room. Directions are included to use this set without these locks! You will also need three boxes. This can be a plastic or metal toolbox, but any box will work- even a cardboard box! Directions and photos are included for how to set up the boxes and locks or how to use a version without locks. You do not need 3 boxes and 3 locks per group! It’s three boxes and three locks for the entire class.

Included in the Escape Room file of this resource, you will find a table of contents and 3 pages of tips and tricks for setting up everything. You will also find:

  • For Box 1- 2 pages of teacher directions, two versions of the Math Riddle paper, Riddle Poster Strips, answer keys, and the box labels.
  • For Box 2- 2 pages of teacher directions, the Coordinated Grid paper in two versions, answer keys, lock code clue cards in two versions, and box labels.
