This essay-planning tool utilizes the PIE paragraph format to encourage students to elaborate on their ideas in a Halloween-themed essay. I've included an explanation of the PIE formula (Point-Illustration-Explanation) and 10+ possible Halloween-themed essay topics. I've also included a sample graphic organizer partially completed to demonstrate the concepts of PIE and attention-getters/full-circle endings.
The reason I like this graphic organizer is that it makes students think they're doing something different/something fun/holiday-related when really they're just practicing good writing skills. The format of the graphic organizer tricks them into believing they're getting a treat! :)
2020 Update: I added a digital interactive layer to allow teachers to assign the activity through Google Classrooms. You, the buyer, may also edit/add the interactive layer using TpT's FREE digital tool available once you download this resource.
I hope that you and your students will enjoy this activity as much as my students and I have and that you'll leave feedback to let me know how it goes.
