Paper Bag Retelling of There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat!
This retelling/sequencing activity was designed to get your students talking about books and to introduce or revisit the retelling comprehension strategy in a fun way! It is ready to print, color and use after reading the book: There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat! By Lucille Colandro/Illustrated by Jared Lee. After, numbering, coloring and cutting, children retell the story using their cards to themselves and then you can assign partners and they retell the story together. You can also retell together first them with partners. However you need to use these is up to you and student needs.
Retelling is an important comprehension strategy. This product is aligned with First Grade CCSS.ELA-LITERACY. RL.1.1 Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson. and Kindergarten CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL. K.2 With prompting and support retell familiar stories including key details.

2. 9 labeled pictures with a place for numbers to sequence the story to be cut out.

4. A blank sheet for those student who you feel might be capable of writing their retelling using the pictures.
