Did you know that fact families live in haunted houses around Halloween time? These spooky guys do! My Spooky Fact Families pack includes everything you need for a special day of Halloween fun in math! It was made for my first graders, but it could also be used for advanced kindergarteners or as a review for second graders.
The pack contains the following goodies:
- a lesson plan that includes relevant Common Core Standards for kindergarten, first grade, and second grade and uses an “I do - we do - you do” approach!
- a PowerPoint presentation that shows how one spooky fact family (2, 3, 5) lives in a haunted house. It is animated to illustrate how each fact of the family is formed using candy pumpkins and candy corn. For example, 2 pumpkins plus 3 candy corns equals 5 pieces of candy in all. The pieces of candy switch places on their own to make turnaround facts!
- a guided practice activity sheet that students use to make their own fact families with candy pumpkins and candy corn like they saw in the PowerPoint. This sheet has a work mat area for students to place their candy in and two houses to write facts in.
- a differentiated independent practice sheet – one simple, one average, and one challenging. I’ve also included a blank one that you can write numbers and/or problems in for students who may need a more individualized activity.
Download the preview to see everything that is included! If you like this activity, please follow me or check back soon! I’ll be posting many more things for pre-k, first grade, second grade, and third grade! I just wanted to get this out in time for Halloween, but there are many more fun things to come as I sort through my files for different grade levels and tweak them to post! Thanks so much for looking! :)
