This activity is a great for Halloween working on sequencing, reading comprehension and following directions. There is a mini Halloween story with real life pictures I took to accompany the story. There is a sequencing page with the pictures for children to sequence the story. You can either read the story to them or have the children read the story. There are seven comprehension questions to go along with the story including who, what, where, when, why, and how questions. Then there is a following directions activity with a sheet set up with two clip arts already on it. The children need to follow 18 directions to either draw or place the 10 real life pictures in different areas on the paper depending on the linguistic terms used. Terms used include: under, to the right, to the left, before, after, bottom right, in, above, in the middle, on top, in the top right, underneath, in between, below, and next to. Some of the directions may be more difficult than others but feel free to adjust them according to the level of your students. You can have the children just draw the pictures, or if you have more time they can color their drawings. You can also expand the lesson by asking the children to describe where certain pictures/drawings are. There is a sample of completed Halloween following direction activities included.
There is also a following directions activity to make a spider snack. For each kid this would include 1 oreo, 8 pretzel sticks (the long skinny ones), 2 mini m&ms, and icing. This activity includes 9 steps.
There is also a parent letter included. One letter is if you do both the following directions story/activity and spider activity and the other letter is if you just do the following directions story/activity.
These lessons can be done over two sessions. The Halloween following directions activity with story and reading comprehension questions takes 30 minutes or more depending on the level of the children. If you let them color the pictures it will take longer.
The clip art pictures were either purchased from www.scrappindoodles.com or downloaded from www.mycutegraphics.com.
