Raise your hand if you loved the Where’s Waldo? books as a child. Searching for Waldo among two pages of fun characters was certainly entertaining. Searching for Waldo taught kids to pay attention to detail and recognize patterns.
I took that same thought process a step farther when I created my holiday themed scavenger hunts. I was searching for an activity to use around the holidays that would excite my students while providing some educational value. Scavenger hunts turned out to exactly that and much more.
Our holiday themed scavenger hunts contain 15-20 rhyming prompts that students have to decipher and follow to locate items around the classroom.
One of the best things about hunts is they don’t require a lot of materials or special skills. And they allow kids to practice problem-solving in a tangible way. Get your kids up and moving around and working together. Scavenger hunts are great for building teamwork and promoting social interaction.

What's included in this resource?
- 2 formats for PowerPoint and Google Slides- everything is preloaded for you!
- teacher directions and tips for prep
- 18 ready to go slides containing Halloween riddles
What prep is involved? None- all you need to do is project the scavenger hunt on your Activeboard for students to see. Read each slide and then allow time for students to travel around the room for the object. These riddles lead to searching for commonly found classroom items, so you don't need to hide anything in advance. Identify the timing parameters with your students before you start the hunt. For example, tell students that after you read each clue, they will have 60 seconds to find the item and return to their desk.
