Young learners are bound to have fun using their imagination and their emerging number sense with the two Halloween tens frames and twelve different Halloween characters/items that come with this product. (Please see the haunted house and pumpkin patch in the preview) In addition to the tens frames and characters, there are seven different activities that may be used with whole group instruction (displayed with available projection technology), guided/modeled instruction, or independent practice either in your math center (mounted on cardstock and laminated) or as more traditional cut and glue worksheets. Some of the activities (depending on grade level and math knowledge) might include:
• Free exploration-students fill the tens frames with various combinations of Halloween items to equal ten without any paper/pencil work
• Fill in the tens frames and then record the resulting equations on one of the activity sheets with or without matching Halloween pictures
• Work on number decomposition (emphasized in the primary grade strands of the Common Core State Standards) by dividing ‘ten” into groups of two & groups of three, completing the corresponding missing addend equations
• Generating original Halloween math stories using the tens frames-drawing a picture and writing the matching equation
