Trick or Treat! All kids LOVE talking about what they are going to be for Halloween! This 'read the room' pack has your little ghosts and goblins search the room for kids dressed in costume and record the initial sound for each costume they find!
This center requires little to no prep on your part and is sure to be loved by all!
It can be used several ways and is easy to differentiate!
This Halloween themed 'read the room' activity will engage your independent learners and they will have no idea they are practicing identifying initial sounds in words!
They are sure to find this center 'spook'-tacular!
The center can also be used as a 'stationary' center rather than count the room. Place cards in baskets or buckets (or even a fun Halloween treat bucket) rather than tape around the room!
Use it in a fall sensory bin too! Fill your bin/bucket with artificial leaves, corn, plastic spiders, shredded paper in Halloween colors, etc! Add the cards! Students can match the picture to letter cards or pick picture cards and record the initial sound letter on the recording sheet!
Use it for early finishers basket too!

Directions/Suggestions For Use:
Print and laminate cards. Tape cards around the room for a ‘read the room’ activity or they can be placed in a basket/bucket/Halloween treat bucket on a table for a stationery center activity.
Students look at the picture, name the costume, find the number on the card/recording sheet and write the letter that matches the initial sound.
Choose the recording sheet that best matches the skill level of your students- find number/write letter, find number/trace letter, write number and letter.
You can even copy the writing activity onto the back of the recording sheet for students to complete after reading the room. The writing activity can also be used to make a class book about students’ Halloween costumes.
Use for centers, center extension activities and/or early finisher basket:
*Have students match picture cards to letter cards
*Place a set of these cards in a basket/bag.
Students can put them in ABC order.
*Partner match up- give ½ your students picture cards and the other ½ letter cards. They have to move about the room to find their ‘match’ partner
*Use in a sensory bin/bucket/table.
*Great for a Halloween themed party activity station!
