Teaching CCSS aligned Halloween lessons just rose to another level! Transport students back to the evening of October 30th, 1938, when Orson Welles’ radio broadcast set the entire country into a state of fear and panic. Dim the lights, close the shades, and transfix students with the voices of the actors of CBS’s The Mercury Theater On The Air in their riveting performance of Martians taking over New Jersey. Lessons include an introduction to the elements of drama, identifying and illustrating similes from the radio script, listening to the radio dramatization, and writing and performing an original drama. A bulletin board design is included as well. You can do as little or as much with these lessons as you wish, adapting to your grade level. A resource page for accessing everything you need is included. These "out of this world" lessons will engage students at one of the most difficult times of the year for teaching and learning as student curiosity replaces those challenging Halloween distractions!
