HALLOWEEN!!! My favorite holiday by far and it shows in this literacy resource, aimed at 2nd-4th Grades. Included are a variety of fun activities, that include creative writing, close reading, informational text articles, cooperative learning games, and more! These activities would be perfect for classroom parties or the week leading up to Halloween.
~Vocabulary Cards using real photos
~Cauldron Shape Book that can be used in interactive notebook for vocabulary
~Creature Feature Report: Included are 6 posters of the most famous creatures for the holiday (i.e., Frankenstein, Werewolf) and students choose one to do a creative report on.
~Halloween Animals: This is a 4-page article on owls, cats, bats, and toads. It discusses each animal and how it relates to Halloween history. There is a set of comprehension task cards and recording sheet included also. Perfect for close reading!
~Boiling Brews: This is a classroom project and class book. Students create a new potion, design a label, attach it to a bottle of colored water and you can put them on display. Gruesome and creative! A class book cover and writing page is included.
~Bark or Boo? Here's another creative writing project. I've provided you with a set of costume ideas to project for students and they must create a Halloween costume for their "dog". There's a drawing/writing page and class book cover included.
~Zombie Walk: Played like 20 questions, each student gets a Halloween card taped to their back. On your say (or with music) they walk around like zombies until the music stops. They can only ask their neighbors yes and no questions, in the hopes of trying to guess their Halloween word. Great for vocabulary and schema building!
~Halloween Making Words: This cooperative learning activity has students trying to guess the clues given by you, that use the letters in the word, Halloween. The group that gets the most clues is the winner.
~Creepy Compounds: This can be a group or individual activity. Students are given two lists of words. They must put one word from each list together to make a Halloween compound word. There are 35 compound words included with a recording sheet.
