The ability to blend word parts (onsets and rimes) is a critical skill for beginning readers.
This enjoyable activity will allow your students to play with the sounds in words and help him to discover how words work. The word families included
at – cat, hat, rat, bat
an – can, pan, man, fan
ut – cut, hut,
en – ten, hen
et – net, wet, pet
ip – tip, rip,
it – kit, sit,
in – pin, fin
ap – map, cap
og – log, dog, jog, hog
ug – bug, hug, mug, rug
ot – cot, hot, dot, pot
op – top, pop, cop, mop
Simply print and laminate the pages, and cut the pieces of candy corn into 3 parts. Students build the word and match the picture with the word.
Students make crowns gluing on the pictures with the specified word family.
Worksheets are also included for easy assessment.
