Halloween Literacy Center works on the skill of adding Silent “e” or Magic “e” to change a Short vowel word into a Long vowel Word.
Print! Laminate! Cut out! And you quickly and easily have a Literacy center that up to 5 students can participate in at a time.
Children have fun by participating in a Halloween themed center that lets them practice reading words with short vowels and long vowels.
Learning vowels can be very challenging for young readers because they make different sounds in different words. Each vowel letter can make at least two sounds: a long sound and a short sound. When reading, students must decide whether the vowel in the word makes its short or long sound.
This Halloween Themed center helps students practice the rule where adding the silent “-e” at the end of a short vowel word turns that word into a long vowel word. Cute graphics that illustrate the words make this center bright and engaging and keeps students motivated as they learn.
After completing the center, students have a worksheet on which they can record their results. This worksheet can be turned into the teacher for accountability. (This worksheet is different from the one being sold on the Halloween Worksheet group)
