This small group activity allows your students to practice naming and identifying basic shapes. Each student will look at the spooky scene to determine how many circles, triangles, squares, and rectangles they can find. Once they determine how many shapes are in the picture, they can color according to the color code.
This activity is aligned with the following common core standards:
K.G.2. Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.
K.CC.3. Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
Directions: Print one copy of the spooky scene and one copy of the Basic Shapes page for each child in your group. Print one color copy of the Basic Shapes page for the teacher to use during instruction (I recommend printing on card stock and laminating). Use the Basic Shapes page to introduce or review each shape. Students will then work independently to determine how many triangles, circles, rectangles, and squares are in the spooky scene. Have fun naming those shapes!
