Looking for something fun AND academic for Halloween? This document focuses on line plots, expanded form, grid work, and word problems. The ghost line plot challenges kids to interpret the data in the graph, including questions such as “how many more” and “how many less”. There are two pages of pumpkin word problems. They both provide students with a place to show their work and an answer box. The first page includes one and multi-step addition and subtraction word problems. The second page is more challenging. These problems include multi-steps, mixed operations, simple division and doubling. As part of the common core, students are expected to write numbers in expanded form. The crazy flying bats page gives students the opportunity to practice this skill with two and three digit numbers. For differentiation I have provided a blank crazy flying bats page. You can fill in your own numbers that meet the needs of your learners. The grid pages work on interpreting grids and are the first step with coordinates. Answer sheets are included for all pages. This document can be made into a packet or used as separate worksheet activities. Lastly, as a bonus I included Halloween tags that can be attached to any Halloween gift from the teacher. This document is perfect for your math block on Halloween.
