Halloween Narrative Writing for Middle School! Includes Literary Elements Graphic Organizers for Setting, Characters, Plot, and Conflict! Complete with a Peer Editing Checklist, Narrative Outline, and a Rubric! Also includes Adjective, Adverb, and Verb Practice Pages!
I have paired each of the graphic organizers in this packet with a lesson about narrative writing. I start by teaching the literary elements, then move on the specific parts of narrative writing.
Lesson 1: Literary Elements
Lesson 2: Setting & Sensory Imagery
Lesson 3: Point of View & Character Traits
Lesson 4: Conflicts in Literature
Lesson 5: Plot
Lesson 6: Vivid Verbs & Amazing Adverbs
Lesson 7: Awesome Adjectives
After I have covered the basics of narrative writing and the students have completed their graphic organizers for each lesson, I go over the Narrative Outline to make it clear to students how their narrative should be organized. Students then begin working on their rough draft. After the rough draft is completed, students swap their rough drafts and Peer Editing Checklist with a partner to complete a “peer edit”. After the “peer edit”, I do individual “teacher checks” with each student. Once I have looked over their rough draft, students may begin their final copy! I incorporate spooky or scary ideas into each lesson to help prepare them to write their Halloween Horror!
