Students will use origami pumpkins to review geometric concepts and vocabulary. They will also calculate area and perimeter or polygons and find the surface area and volume of a cube whilst celebrating Halloween.
Rationale and procedures:
I enjoy celebrating holidays in my classroom. Instead of watching a holiday movie or playing games I create lessons that make students practice new, old or current concepts in a fun and interesting way. This is a great lesson to fill one class period and keep students engaged during a hectic Halloween day. In this lesson students will create an origami pumpkin using a “water balloon” type fold.
The lesson includes:
1. A Powerpoint introduction to Polygons and to the Origami.
2. A Teacher's guide and background
3. An activity worksheet regarding polygons
