I’ve attached 3 different variations for this activity. I used it with my 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes. Each project is a little more difficult than the last. I decided to include all of them so that you can select which activity best fits the needs of your students OR you can pick and choose.
Ahead of time, I start collecting sales ads for grocery and drug stores for the students to use. Halloween candy starts going on sale in September so you can start this project before Halloween.
Students will need to purchase candy, snacks, and drinks for a Halloween party. Each project has it’s own specifications for how many bags, pieces, people, etc. for the party.
Students will calculate the cost of all the items and hopefully stay within budget. Students learn to shop around and use real life math skills. Grading rubric is included.
