Trick or Treat!

If your classes are anything like mine, I can say with reasonable assurance that far too often, peer review days typically fell into one of two categories:

A) Joyless educational "troubles" marked by dry, lifeless, and frustratingly passion-free academic routines. At best, an educational also-ran. At worst, like sitting through 40+ minutes of the saddest Irish ballad that you ever heard.

B) Overzealous donnybrooks of students engaging in off-task discussions of limited academic value. Lots of talk about Snapchat, The Kardashians, and pro football -- but not so much in the way of on-task activity and meaningful peer review.

But what if there was a way to use peer review day to drive meaningful peer-to-peer dialogue and spark a GENUINE LOVE OF LEARNING? Not to worry, folks. This Halloween themed peer review activity brings the luck of the Irish and a instant dose of energy to your lesson planning!

Change the game of your peer review with this step-by-step guided activity completely adaptable for all reading / English / language arts classes from middle school through grade 12. Using this resource, students hop between six different targeted improvement areas, reviewing DOZENS of examples of works from their peers while scoring points and adding themed items to their inventory as they go. And teachers can float freely between groups, providing targeted support for struggling learners wherever necessary!

This digital download contains:

+ 2 page walk-through of pedagogy and setup for a self-contained peer editing activity that will help students and teachers get a clear sense of writing strengths and weaknesses while still putting in meaningful work with minimal time wasted for the full duration of your class period. Think of this like your teacher guide book!

+ A sample 2 page student self-scoring sheet Google Doc you can edit to the unique needs of your students, grade level, and curriculum demands. Divided into six different techniques, including:

• Using Quotes Effectively

• Sentence Structure and Grammar

• Body Paragraph Structure

• Introductory Paragraph Structure

• MLA Formatting Basics

• Works Cited Page Formatting

+ A fully-editable Google Slides presentation with 17 slides, embedded timers, clear visuals for whole-class instructions, victory poster, and 150 printables.

While the peer review process can be scary -- this resource is about as big a Halloween "Treat" as you're likely to find to add energy, life, and VALUE to your peer review days.

Happy Halloween, and thanks again for checking out my TPT store!
