Super proud of this one! This is a STEAM activity that incorporates elements of science, technology (anything used to solve a problem), engineering, art, and math. Your students will start with a story written by Medusa about her misfortune. She is definitely the victim! Then, your students will work with volume (or at least multiplication to 1000) to determine the possible size of the box that could hold Medusa's head. Students will then build a model of the box they feel is most likely the one holding Medusa's head with rolls of paper and tape. The class will show off their models and choose the best one. This means they found the box that holds the head! Next, Medusa needs snakes to guard her box, so your students will camouflage a snake to tape to the classroom wall. Finally, your students will write a persuasive letter to Athena, trying to convince her to lift the curse on Medusa. Since Athena is me, I will personally write back to your class, either once or all year! This could be an amazing penpal opportunity filled with riddles and additional mysteries throughout the school year.
