This short story "The White Dress" is a great story to use to teach character analysis and text evidence. It is a creepy story, that really gets students interested. This story is great for Halloween or anytime you want to get your students' attention.
Included in this product, you will find:
Character analysis - Students are asked to fill in a character graphic organizer to describe what the character thinks, feels, says, does and the character's traits. I also make my students provide text evidence to support their answers. Then students are asked to bring all this together and write a summary of the character that describes the character fully.
Text Evidence - There are six open ended questions about the story, and the protagonist of the story. Students are then forced to provide text evidence to support their answers.
Exit Ticket - There is an exit ticket that asks students to think about the theme of the story and a question that asks the students to evaluate alternative choices the character could have made.
Write a New Ending - Students are asked to write a new ending to the story. This story is a bit of a cliff hanger. Students will be very frustrated by the ending. This gives them the opportunity to change the ending in any way they want. Students get pretty excited about this activity and find this very fun to do.
