This activity is great for the days leading up to Halloween or anytime you want to discuss the power of music over frightening moods!
Check out the preview file to see all presentation slides and follow-along worksheet options! Please note that the preview might be grainy due to file constraints. Once downloaded, the presentation is in a crisp, HD quality.
Added as of October 2021:
- Compressed PowerPoint file under 50mb, which allows the file to be uploaded to Google Classroom.
- Separate file with YouTube selections that allows you to use YouTube or another safe video site other than SafeShareTV.
This is a zip file containing a PDF and PPT presentation for 25 musical examples spanning the baroque period to now. For each composer/arranger/group you will find a biography, information about the piece they created, and links to YouTube videos (SafeShareTV Links) of examples of the songs.
Disclaimer: I recommend this activity for grades 2 and up, even high school students. Be aware that this product is for many grade levels. What is appropriate for some grades may not be for others. Although I feel like I've picked examples that aren't too scary, I highly recommend that you screen the videos prior to showing in class.

SAFESHARETV INFORMATION:
SafeShareTV takes YouTube links and eliminates the distractions of related videos, autoplay, and best of all, NO ADS! This is why some sort of safe-viewer is recommended in the classroom. I have also made sure to edit the videos to crop out any unnecessary beginning time (like applause) so you get right to the music after clicking the link.
Please make sure your district does not block YouTube or SafeShareTV before attempting to access the video links in your classroom. Please note that the download does not contain actual video and audio files. All videos are internet-based. Links are only on the "Let's Listen" pages. Although they are not underlined, they do have transparent boxes placed over them with hyperlinks to the listening example. If you are using PowerPoint, you must be in presentation/slideshow mode for the listening examples to be clickable.
To see if your institution allows SafeShareTV, (from your institution's technology) click the link below to test the connection.

If your institution happens to block SafeShareTV and you would like to still access the videos, SafeShareTV does have a download option available. To do this, you would still need to access the link from a location where SafeShareTV is not blocked.
